My wife just bought a 2005 Grand Prix, base model with the 3.8. Everything checks out good, and it runs great. One minor problem is that the parking brake doesn't hold. I've checked the pads (via looking through the wheel) and there's plenty of material there. The parking brake pedal in the car feels good, and doesn't bottom out. So I go under the car and the rear calipers have the cable attached to them, a.k.a. combined caliper/parking brake unit, and I tried adjusting the cable. Still won't hold. I went to a few parts websites and some show parking brake shoes. That doesn't make sense based on the calipers I have. I know the easiest, sure-fire way to tell is to pull the wheel...but I was wondering if anyone here has any input. Thanks.

Try having the wife set the parking brake while you watch it? Could be a sticky caliper.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

Your model will have the ebrake as part of the caliper. There is another model that has the old style parking brake inside of the rotor. Don't let that confuse you..yours is part of the rear brake caliper.

Not sure what can/will go wrong in your setup (I have the same setup), the only thing I can think of is maybe the rear brakes need to be bled.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
