    Question:

    I have a 1997 GTP with Crosslace wheels. Everywhere I look, everyone is saying that the 98-02 f body brakes or '04 and up GXP brake upgrades will NOT work with cross lace wheels (caliper interference?).

    Those of us who were unfortunate to inherit but love our Crosslace wheels might like a solution for their sub par brake systems that include their wheel package.

    Any thoughts?

    Sub-par brakes? Are you sure that your braking system is 100% operational?

    I've had 5 GPs and none of them had what I would consider to be sub par braking systems.

    I heard the samething. I was told the wheel has a different shape on the inside than the other GP wheels. I dont think anyone ever showed pictures of the differents. It would be nice info to have

    you cant fit anything under those wheels that would switch the calipers.

    you most likely can still fit the GM 12" upgrade, because it uses a stock caliper with different brackets so you can use the bigger rotors.

    It takes someone with the wheels to post pictures in order to have the info up for others.
    I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

    I was really hoping someone already had previous experience with this issue. I haven't a non crosslace wheel to compare my crosslace to. I suppose I could look into the 12" replacements as I do not want to exchange my wheels for different ones. Apparently the crosslace was a bit costly as an option and not many cars had them.

    Has anyone had a chance to compare a replacement 12" rotor and caliper upgrade to the original?

    This weekend I'll be going up to OK City to get a F-body brake kit from K. Ross. When I get back I can play with the brackets/calipers and see if the stock caliper will bolt to the F-body brackets and still allow room to bolt MY crosslaces. Would be nice to be able to still use them if I had to. Was getting prepped to upgrade and never look back.

    Or an alternative would be to look for a set of the old GP crosslace 16x8s and be baller.

    They have silver, gold, and a rare silver/blue set. Some paint them black but leave the lip, definitely a good look.

    your stock caliper will not fit the f body bracket. or vise versa.

    Here's the wheel I have. Meant for 97 GP. Any thoughts on whether this will fit the 12" gm upgrade for brakes? I'm getting close to needing to purchase new rotors so any accurate info (not guesses) anyone had would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Okay, after a bit more looking I've discovered the reality of my situation and that is you can NOT upgrade your calipers if you have stock cross lace wheels. Suck. ClubGP: Grand Prix 12" Brake Upgrade (1997-2000)

    any one know if the impala brakes fit the cross lace wheels? something worth looking into.

    12'' brakes DO fit under the crosslaces, got them on the project car, theres about 1/8'' between face of caliper and back of spokes. tight fit for sure
    2000 silvermist GT... HPtuned, RallyArmor flaps, 6K headlights, 12K fogs, D.I.Y. shiftkit, flipped dogbones, Plastidipped roof, debadged, led interior, custom 3.5" CAI and is far from racekar... for now

    That's great to know! Thank you. Of course that's also a super tight tolerance. I decided to simply upgrade the rotors for now (stock size just better quality). I got them from rotorpros. Nice guys, parts from centric (I specified they give me an American shipment and not a Chinese). Whether they do is the honor system but all the same it's nice they cared enough to say I could. Without getting into the argument of whether after market drilled/slotted rotors hold up my car's the occasional drive fast and drive myself to work rig so seeing as I'm not pouring around the PIR repeatedly, I think I'll be okay. Part's, machine work (cnc), and shipping for both $100 flat.

    Someday, I plan on upgrading the brakes entirely but until then I'll just focus on suspension because that doesn't work while my brakes do.

    Again, thanks for everyone's help and I'll be checking up on the crosslace vs 12" upgrade for more info.

    i wouldnt even bother with upgrading again lol, just drive the crap out of it til it breaks lol. i decided to not upgrade on my dd, i opted for brand new stock centric rotors and posi quiet ceramic pads. everything came out to be like $88.00
