I have a 06 GP and I am having problems with the abs coming on when coming to a normal controlled stop. Everything is working fine and this just happens once or twice a week. I think I maybe a gummed up dirty abs pick up sensor that is not reading all the time at low speeds. I plan on hooking it up to a scanner to see what sensor is causing it if that is possable. I have had a buddy that the same thing was happening to his chevy truck. He found that the sensor is removable on those wheel bearings and dirt was causing a bad sensor reading causing the abs to activate at low speeds coming to a stop. He cleaned all the sensors and works great. I don't think the wires/ sensors can be removed on these bearings so I may need to replace one. I have no lights on and the ABS works normally except for this. Has this happened to anyone else and what could be the fix.

    Thanks

Had that problem on my last GP. Replaced the hub assembly that was kicking the abs light on and the problem went away.

This is almost always caused by a wheel speed sensor, located in one of the front wheel bearing/hub assemblies.

Is there a way to clean the sensor or does it the whole wheel bearing need to be replaced. I have a scanner coming and will check if there is a code or not. I will wait and see.... a few more days.

No, you can't clean nor service them. If the car is throwing a code, you should see your ABS light on (if the lamp works). A sensor intermittently taking a dump will often times not throw a code. The sensor will throw bad info at the module, usually low or zero mph. The module thinks that wheel is slowing too much or is stopped, so it activates the ABS system to prevent tire skid.

If you aren't throwing codes, you'll need a scanner that lets you see the mph readings from the wheel speed sensors while you're driving. Use an assistant to read the scanner or do the driving. Watch the sensors on the scanner and see which one reads low or zero when your symptom repeats.

We had the ABS ingauge long enough to have the ABS Traction and the brake lights all come on at the same time and stay on. Now I thought the code was in the system. The next morning we started the car and the lights were off and the ABS is working again. I got the scanner and checked for codes and nothing. I guess I need the wheel bearing to fail and not work at all to get a code to find the bad one. If I get time I will jack up the car to see if there is a wheel bearing that has play in it.

Most scanners can't read ABS codes. TechII can.
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.

The scanner we used reads ABS codes and there were none stored or the scanner wasn't working right!! Either way it is still doing it and not fixed. I need a scanner that I can read each wheel speed sensor outputs to see which one is causing the prob. My dad may have one but he is 400 miles away-- will check with him and may be able to do this over christmas if he has one. You need the high dollar ones to do this and the one I used was a $175 scanner.

I had the same problem with my 04 gp gt. It was the wire harness to one of the front speed sensors. Found out which one and
changed it, they just unplug from the wheel bearing. Darwin wire harness had the best price.

Unfortunatly gm decided to make the gp's wheel speed sensors intergrated with the bearing/hub assembly so you just gotta break down and speen the money on a new hub. I would take the wire harness going to the front wheel speed sensors off tho and check the resistance on the wires. If it is them it will be cheaper and much easier than the wheel hub itself. GP's are commonly known for having wheel bearing failure

Tech II is your best option. Make a friend at the local stealership. I've had good luck with telling them my problem and asking for a scan. Also tell them you are planning to fix it yourself. You know its a bad hub, just need to see which one it is. Usually when you sound like you know what your talking about they won't try to bs you. If they say NO or Need to charge you, tell them forget it and that you will take your future business elsewhere. Sounds Dickish but your the customer. If they don't want to work with you on it, it's prolly a reflection of how they would treat you in the future anyway. As other have said, look at your wheel speed sensors. At a stand still my right front was reading 7mph.
    Sorry for the rant, Goodluck!

jack up the car and try to wiggle the wheel, if there is no play then check wire harness to speed sensor for breakage. They some times break at the flex point
    because of the steering action.
