Recently when going over bumps and imperfections in the road (and there are a LOT around here! ) my front end makes a "thumpy" noise and it doesn't matter which wheel hits the bump they both make the noise. Is this a sign of my shock and struts needing replaced or is it something else?

BTW, the car is a 2005 and has a little over 117k on it.

Could be...shocks like to be replaced every 50-75k...I'm overdoing it with mine as well at 90k. Could also be toasted strut mounts.

Check your sway bar, sway bar bushings and your end links as well.

Good info, thanks! I'm a do-it-yourselfer....Are these easy to replace in your driveway?

Would it be visually evident if these are bad?

yeah, something will probably be broken. if the end link is broken or the sway bar rusted through the sway bar just flops around.

Alright....I'll get under there this weekend and check it out. I've been under there to change the oil pretty recently, though, and there's barely any rust under there at all so I can't see it being rusted out. I guess I'll find out, though

If it happens to be a shock/strut issue how hard is that to change out in the driveway? I hate paying someone to do work that I could just do myself....

not too bad, just helps to have someone helping you since they are kinda heavy.

you'll also need a spring compressor if you just get struts and not a fully assembled strut/spring combo (quick-struts).

Cool! Thanks for the advice. I had questioned that as well as I was lookin' for parts and saw the "assembled strut/spring combo" as well as just the strut. Thanks for filling me in. I hope to get this fixed as soon as possible as the noise is driving me nutty!

I had loud thumps when going over bumps or turning. Got underneath and looked, and my sway bar snapped right in half. It was very visually evident something was wrong. Lol.

Can't get much more evident than that! First things first, then, before I start buying parts. I will crawl underneathe and take a gander and see if this is the case on mine. Thanks for the info.

It's easier to see everything if you jack it up nice and high and pull both wheels off.

I was able to get under the car this weekend and I think I've confirmed that I need shocks/struts. Doing some research on the process of replacing them, though, it looks like I'll have to have a shop do the work. Normally, I like doing all of my own work but that job appears to be pretty involved....

Another thing I found had to do with that rod that goes from the sway bar up to the strut assembly on the driver's side. There's a grease cert there where that rod connects to the sway bar and it appears to be bad. I have a picture of it below. Not the best but it's the best I could do

See how there appears to be a whole in the rubber?

    sway bar link.

your sway bar setup was dumb.

Not much you can do about it without getting "involved"

Yeah, figured I'd have it fixed when I have my other work done. Just thought I'd throw a pic up of the issue...

Get a fresh set of rear endlinks by Moog. They are much thicker, better and the mechanic will be happy about it.

I think I may have found the part to fix the issue pictured above. It's a Sway Bar repair kit from Auto Zone and looks like....

Have any of you repaired this before or used this kit?
