Great write up Bio! Thanks for taking the time to help us learn the correct way to mod our cars.

I have some new Vogtland springs in my garage waiting to go on. I was going to save a few bucks by installing them on the stock struts for now. If I understand your post correctly, this would be a bad idea? I should get GR-2's minimum, but preferably AGX's if I want them to last? Glad I saw this thread before I started turning bolts.

    Thanks!

honestly, i think vogtland springs will be fine for a while on stock struts. they barely even lower the car.

The Vogtland and SSC Gen II are almost identical in design, I am not sure exact differences between the two, but I would agree Bio on the limited lowering they do. Over time of course they will settle more, but not a great amount.

In regards to the GR-2 Struts. I had them on my only GP GT with my SSC Gen IIs and honestly they rode a lot rougher than my current AGX/SSC Gen II setup does. If you are looking into saving a bit of money, go with the GR-2s but if you can hold out a little while longer and get the AGX's, just look for the best price, you can generally find them from around $400/450 up to $500 with shipping usually.

With the AGX's you can control better your struts stiffness a lot better than with the GR-2 that have no control. I switch mine up frequently depending on what I am doing. If I am driving home to Louisville to see the folks, I set them 1 on the front front struts and leave the rears on 2. It gives the car a more bouncy luxury car like feel. For when I am driving to work and around town, I set the fronts to 2 to give the car a bit more stability. And if I goto the track, I set the rears to 3, the stiffest setting, and leave the fronts at 2.

    Just some food for thought

Nice write up Bio. Best one I've ever seen on this subject! How about more info on cutting the bump stops, like pics of a stocker next to a cut down one. Wouldn't the suspension actually bottom out with a cut down bumper? Seems to me that even if you are lowered, you still would not want the car to jounce lower than the stock bump stops would allow. I'm getting ready to install AGXs with SSCs and have not yet decided if I'm going to cut the bump stops or leave them alone.

if you dont cut the bump stops for that little extra travel then youll be riding on them all the time which is a very rough ride. it literally feels like you car is bottoming out. ask me how i know.

then you bottom out the struts on themselves, which is way worse. do not take them out.
