Hi everyone! Last week the passengers side wheel bearing/hub assembly started humming. It got louder and louder so this morning I put a new one in. took it for a ride and THAT noise was gone. but now I have a rotational humming noise only between 28mph and 35mpg. any other speed it's silent. It doesn't sound like a wheel bearing cause when I turn and take the cars wieght off of each side the sound is still there, usually it'll change or stop. does anyone have an idea as to what this could be?

Possibly the CV axle boot. Make sure it is on there. You will klnow if it is not because there will be grease everywhere.

CV boot and axle are fine. I took the wheel back off to double check make sure all the bolts were tight which they were. the new hub is flush against the spindle.

take it for a ride up to those speeds, pop it in nuetral and turn off the engine. See if it is still there. Engine off might even be able to help you figure out where it is coming from if it is still there.

My guess would be is to double check your work, maybe a brake pad or pin is a little sticky

I'll have to try that tonight. the brakes were my first thought cause the rotors aren't in the greatest shape and I didn't have any of the locking washers that go on the wheel stud to hold the rotor so i didn't put any in but i've done this on around thirty different cars and it's never been a problem. the caliper came off in one piece with the bracket so the pads weren't removed but the and squell goo on the back of them may have broken loose. I'll try your suggestion and let you know what happens.

were you able to determine which corner of the car it is coming from?

Can't determine for sure which side it's coming from but it seems like the passenger side ( same side as I changed the hub), I did notice a bubble on the sidewall (wifes car, surprise!) of that tire when I took it apart but they're the same tires that have been on it for a while and it's never done this before so I don't think it's the tires. but anythings possible I guess. One thing I was thinking is possibly the new bearing in the hub is quite balanced so at those exact speeds it's emitting these harmonic vibrations. kinda unlikey but possible. what do you guys think?
