I have a 05 grand prix 3.8 and the ignition cyl is broke.I cannot shut the car to off and remove the key. I pulled enough of the dash to acess the cylinder visually.Didnt feel like tackeling the job myself. During this process I set off the security.Seen on the web how to reset and followed those instructions. the display changed from the security warning to car disabled due to throttle control.Starter turns over but I do not believe its getting fuel.I unhooked the battery and tried to bleed off the power reconnected battery and still have the same problems. I am new to this forum so if I have posted in the wrong spot or any other error please excuse me.

well maybe Iam in the wrong forum. The first reply I get asks if I stole the car and when I reply with sarcasm all I get is more b.s. and I get called a troll. Just in case someone can actually give me some usefull info I will update. I pulled the ign cyl but the car is still semidisabled from the security.Does anyone know if I install the new ign cyl will the car still code the new cyl ?? I am still in the same spot with the car ie display still reads diabled due to throttle and lose of power. What I hope to happen is when I install the new cyl the car will recode to the new part and will either reset the security or allow me to reset.

    I kid, I kid.

I imagine if you do as matt says and "unbroke it." You will have a result more to your liking.

Now my car used to stop the key from going to the all off position, its like the shifter solenoid.
There is a lil release button you can press with a small screwdriver in the steering column. That's at least how it is in my 98.

If that's the issue, put a new one in, drain all the power out of things, leave the battery unplugged for 24-48 hours and update with what happens.

Do you by any chance have a code scanner? Not sure if it would help, but there may be things going on that are saved there.

That's all the knowledge i have about this topic.

Typically it needs programming at the dealer.

If you replace the cylinder, you can either have it coded for your existing keys (locksmith or dealer only) or have the new key chip coded to your pass key module.

So you're still going to have to visit the dealer.

Can't start the car? Now you're going to need to tow it there.

Typically not being able to remove the key is related to the park lock solenoid, though I have yet to hear of an issue with the 04+ park lock solenoids. Perhaps they don't have them.

Disabled due to throttle control logically wouldn't be related to the ignition cylinder. It would be related to the electronic throttle control unit and the related wiring.

ok thank you. I checked the cable from the shifter[on floor]to the ignition[on dash]and it all looked good. cleaned it up anyway. The big snafu is I cannot turn the car off completely. It goes a far as acc which as you prob kno still powers the radio etc. with the key stuck in the semi on pos I cannot reset the security.I wanted to just buy the outside[sleeve?]of the cyl but if I do that I will still be using the same key[its bent]and I am not convinced that doing so will fix the prob. Do you know or anyone know if I can just buy the whole unit with a new key.If so will a new complete ign cyl installed be reconized by the car?? Ive seen some vids about resetting the security and it seems easy enough but I sure would hate to go to all that trouble just to find out it wont work.I feel like I just keep kickin a dead horse with this.In a way it just seems like such a rare set of circumstances that nobody will have first person knowledge. But I am very greatfull for any ideas

one thing I forgot to mention there was no problems until this key issue.I believe the info the car presents on screen is all related between the ign cyl weak battery and setting off the security. The parts should be in within a day or 2 and I will posts the results.
