I have a 07 GT and about four months the ignition switch went bad. I replaced it and when getting the car up again I get the message "starting disabled due to theft system" on the DIC. Here are the details:

-I have an HPT and the tune currently in the car I have the VATS communication set to none. This has allowed me to start/run/drive the car with this message.

-I did not change any of the keys or the ring that is part of the lock cylinder

-I attempted twice the 30 minute key learn procedure to no avail (I do see that while the car is running I get a "check trip computer" message every ten minutes, I guess that is the 07's version of flashing the security light).

-Sometimes the car does not display this message. It happens randomly, more on cold starts on very cold days, it will eventually come on after say five minutes or so.

-My dash was all come apart so I just replaced the dash bezel and another DIC. There is no change other than the mileage is different.

What can I do to at the very least get this message to go away and have a working DIC again? The key learn process is not working so I feel like the issue may be a wiring issues (unfortunately while having the car apart I checked for any breaks or damage and could not find any). I heard that a GM tech 2 tool could fix this but I do not know anyone with one and I am not willing to go to a dealership and pay large sums of money for that service. I found difficulty finding good schematics of passkey 3 (a majority of the information is really for passkey 2). I see some kits and items out there that state it will bypass passkey 3 but I do not know how legitimate they are (as in if they work or not).

I know enough to be dangerous on Passkey 2 but not 3 so the only suggestion I have is to browse/join a forum for an 07 era GM make/model with lots of users (Camaro maybe?) and try to find threads where they really got into the details about trying to make the same error message go away. Maybe that will give you the insight you need. I agree with what you stated about the online schematics and info about factory theft protection can conflict or be misleading. But eventually you can filter out the noise and false info to find most of the clues you need. Good luck!
