I've been using the AC PF63e on my 2008 GPX. All the parts store websites say this filter will not fit. What have some of you found? I know the PF48 is recommended, but it's a very short filter.

The factory filter is short, that is why they say it will not fit.

Is it this way for tons of GM vehicles, there is always a long and short filter with the same thread pitch but some vehicles get short and other long.

The LS V8's in the trucks use a 1042 short filter from napa but a 1522 is the long filter that also fits. Or the later model trucks use 7060 but the long version is 7045. If you look up each truck it will show just the short as the only option on a 5.3 engine.

It was easy to figure out what is the same style when looking up measurements or just working on the vehicles in general because I just just screw on different filter to see what worked.

I'd rather use a WIX style filter from napa than a AC delco filter but a new filter is a new filter so it's better than nothing.

    FYI, a PF48 is the napa 7060.

Thanks for the reply. I will continue to use the PF63e, which is the longer version of the PF48. I don't see value in abandoning what GM put on this engine from the factory--an AC Filter.

It's a preference thing and to some a data thing.

Many tests have been done on all kinda of filters to show quality or construction, pleets (media) and the flow through the oil filter.

Times could have changed but in the most recent ones I'd read and looked at the AC delco filters did less than other brands because they had less media and flowed faster than other filters because of it. Meaning they didn't trap as much stuff and were used up faster.

My wix filters are generally cheaper than AC delco and do just as good if not better job at filtering.

I've run nothing but Wix filters on all my cars (except my Crown Vic) and have never had an issue even being higher mileage engines. Also been running them in an 04 5.3 Silverado and an 05 Avalanche for almost a decade (friends trucks). So far no issues.

I had contemplated running a longer length filter, but for me it hung a little too low for my liking. Did a write up on another site, here is the thread if you are bored

ran ac delco on majority of my GM vehicles and never had an issue.
when I had my 98 GTP I ran the truck filter as well. my only issue with the longer filter is that if you have worn bushings or suspension or even lowered, to be wary of hitting bumps and/or pot holes. I had one instance where the truck filter got a bit crushed against the control arm on the passenger side and cracked a small leak. the gtp wasn't lowered but it had a worn control arm bushing IIRC when I hit a bad pothole.

I will not use fram after seeing this video. This guy cuts open the filters to look inside and compare how good they are brand vs brand.
