I have a 06 GP gxp. I had the plugs replaced and did a few tranny flushes trying to fix the issue, not knowing what the problem was at 1st. But when the throttle is pushed like 5-15% the car feels like it's misfiring pretty bad. The motor shakes. It's never kicked a misfire code or had the check engine light go on. I believe it's the DOD turning on and off. When I put it in 3rd in manual it disables and is fine. What should I do to fix the problem when the car is in automatic?

likely need new lifters, they start to fail and cause misfires. common issue. need to have it turned off in the tune to make it stop working, then most will change the cam and lifter to non dod parts to cure the lifter issue from ever happening again.

Alright thank you for some clarity on this issue. Do you know a ball park price to get all of that done?

To remove and replace everything budget at least $700-900.

That's just in parts, supplies, fluid. Then you have to have it tuned by someone for a cost.

Or if you just went with factory new AFM/DoD lifters, it's less money because you just need new lifters, new head gaskets and intake gaskets. A few other odds and ends here or there as well.

have you checked your motornounts the lowers not the uppers. And is the throttle body clean and free of carbon?checked for vacuum leaks?

motor mounts fail a lot. when I bought my car at 80,000 miles, all 3 mounts were garbage. it might also be worth looking at the harmonic balancer because they debond and stop spinning perfectly round.

a few weeks too late, but have you done a standard tune up such as cleaning the MAF? a dirty maf would result in the hesistation/misfire feeling at certain ranges depending on where the sensor is dirty/clogged up.

I've posted on another thread with a similar problem with my '08 GXP. Mine shudders every time I come to a stop. The shuddering begins at about 20 mph and stops only when the car is standing still. When in manual mode, this never occurs.

Car runs great on the highway. 24 mpg. When DOD kicks in, there is no shudder or hesitation. All that changes is the sound of the engine. Car has 160,000 miles on it.

Several on this board have told me I need to change lifters and/or disable DOD. My neighbor just had this done on his 2009 Chev truck at $5,000--by a relative who's a professional mechanic. Whether that was too high is irrelevant to mu problem, since $5,000 is about the value of the car. Pulling cylinder heads is necessary on an LS to change lifters.

How do I check engine mounts? What would you do?

you talking like a tap shift mode it dont act up? not sure what your car comes with for toys. if so that could be a blowing up torque converter.

I surely never said you had to remove and replace the lifters. The only reason to is if there is a failure or you want to remove the AFM/DoD system entirely.

Your neighbor got ****ing raped on price. Not even a dealership would charge $5,000 for new lifters with all the labor. You can buy a brand new engine from GM for less than that. It's barely 10-12 hours of labor to remove and replace all lifters and even at $100 an hour that no where close. People be getting scammed out there.
