Hey all, I have a friend with an 01 GTP Supercharged that I'm working on. So far I've replaced the big main motor mount, the power steering pump, the driver side CV shaft, and the supercharger's tensioner idler assembly and ribbed stationary idler.

I'm still hearing a nasty noise though, and after getting all the other noises taken care of, Im pretty sure it's coming from the supercharger's nose cone. I've done the old stethescope on the idler bearings and none of them sound bad (now that I've replaced the two bad ones). I hear what sounds like a shot bearing behind the supercharger pulley. It doesn't sound bad when driving, only when the RPM's drop low like at idle, it will chatter and grind, and sometimes it will drag the RPM down for a moment. I'm sure it's about to grenade if I don't repair it soon!

Is there a replaceable bearing in there, and if so, does anyone have some pictures of how to replace it, or a write up on it?

Thanks in advance for any advice/pics you can give me!

Might be the coupler inside it.
Also if you aren't sure if it is the supercharger take the belt off and start it up if it goes away chances are it is.

Have you checked the coupler? Pull the supercharger belt and turn the pulley by hand, if you can feel play when you turn it, then it's the coupler.

Yes, take a look at RollingPerformance.com instructions, good shipping costs and fast service each time I've used them.

Thanks guys, yes I have disconnected the supercharger belt and started it up, sound is gone in that configuration. And it does have some back and forth rotational freeplay when I hand move the pulley, and a small amount of end play which Im sure is normal. The sound I hear with the stethescope is right behind the pulley though, and I have seen a couple youtube videos of the disassembly of the supercharger and that's right where the bearing is.

The car has about 160K on it, and Im sure he has NEVER done anything with the supercharger oil. So, Im assuming the bearings have just gone dry, and possibly the coupler is worn out. Hoping the rotor assembly is ok, but Im not diving into that part until I get the nose cone sorted out first.

Is Ester 100 or Aeroshell 100 good oil for the supercharger? How much do they typically hold when filling them from empty?
