So during my wonderful Iraq deployment here in the next couple months, I planned on IC+Camming my 04. I dont have much experience with running a cam but I would like to know what would be the best for a DD. I Currently am running the usual 3.4 set up with a crappy tune(soon to change). So far, my parts list is as follows:

    WBodyStore Full Size IC
    Fuel Rails(PRJ Maybe?)
    Smaller Pulley(3.0 Maybe?)
New Injectors(What LBS should I be looking for?)
XP Cam(Would this be the best for a DD?)

Now I know Im going to need new Springs and Rockers. What would you guys suggest I run here?

    Thanks a bunch.

VS is the completely DD cam.

S1X or XP is more aggressive.

VS with the right springs would be easier on your timing set than the XP/s1x with the correct springs would be.

I have an XP with 105# springs on the stock timing set for over a year now. No issues being my DD.

IIRC 40 000 miles is a good time to inspect that.

Not trying to say it wont work, but it doesnt last as long as stock or a smaller cam with lighter springs.

So running with the VS Cam, what springs would I have to run, and could I run a higher ratio rockers? And also would I need to run higher lbs Injectors?

People say you can run a VS Cam on stock valve springs...if your shifting at BONE stock settings I could see it being fine...but IMO I wouldn't chance it hinting at valve float and get stronger springs...I recommend GM L76 (G8 GT) Springs, Yellow #90 LS6's, or Crow 105's. Don't buy Comp 105's...they've been "fixed" but I wouldn't still take chances after seeing all the bad batches and busted valve springs destroying heads/pistons.

I ran an XP Cam on LS6's for well over 40K...had the idle set at 800? IIRC. It was noticeable but didn't clatter your teeth to bits like my Thrasher does sitting at 625 with poly mounts all around. Fun yes, daily driveable...maybe once a week on a nice day LOL.

I'd go with whatever intercooler you'd like, it is a great purchase either way, injectors...you'd be looking at 42.5lb. ones will be plenty...I'd also recommend starting on a 3.2" and working your way down...don't see why you can't run a 2.8" with a Cammed/Intercooled GenV setup with the right tuning. At this mod level I would also tell you to get a Wideband setup...with those mods; tuning with the narrowband is like running blindfolded. You might make it...might not...

If I was in your position though...a VS with an Intercooler and the right tuner/pulley size/injectors...I wouldn't see a XP/S1X car totally DESTROYING it in a heads up race with the same exact mods...it might be a little faster but for the daily driving aspect of things, the VS would hardly be noticeable...then you could also run a set of 1.7 or 1.8 rockers on the VS...and make it bigger than the XP or S1X farther down the road if you get bored

What mistakes were made with the VS? There are plenty of setups running deep into the 12's with the right tuner. Also, learn from your own and pull your front cover. I bet 20 to 1 you don't have much of a dampner left if any at all. After 40K I had pieces of it left with an XP. Just an FYI.

Would a Rollermaster chain be needed? If so, single or double?

Not for any of those cam selections, no. If you did get a larger cam, I suggest the Rollmaster Double...and have it chamfered correctly.

Would I have to do anything to the fuel pump with the new Injectors?

You can get the FP Re-Wire kit...but no, it isn't needed. The stock pump/lines are just fine.

Would PRJ Fuel Rails for the L67 fit my L32? If not, what fuel rails would you recommend?

And wouldnt this require some headwork or could I run them on the stock L32 Heads. And at what point in modding would I require an LQ4 MAF. Ive seen a couple builds running in the 12s with this. I know its only a matter of time before my stock MAF becomes restrictive.

    Thanks guys...

At that point you'd want ported heads (stage 3ish) and a minimum of 130's.
