We should, but I'm afraid of any carnage screwing up the parts I want to salvage.

How many miles on this motor? What is the suspected reason for failure?

Mileage on motor was around 80k. I suspect spun bearing. Started showing white smoke a while back but no signs in oil, and virtually no coolant loss. Just started one day on the way home from school.

Odd... mine was at 83k, didn't notice until I got off the highway, was driving perfect and the sound of the tires and wind (windows were down) covered the sound of the knock

That is odd. Mine was running perfect then I got off the interstate and had the windows down. Thought I was hearing the sound of my drilled and slotted rotors as i braked as normal but it definitely wasn't. Pulled in the driveway and it's been parked since november.

^^^^ The problem is likely a bearing, it would just be interesting to know what the cause is. If such can be found.

Notice you said no coolant in oil, so that elimnates the most obvious potential cause.

Odds are previous owners being fail at regular maintenance. Poor maintenance with hard driving tends to lead toward
