    There wasn't a noticeable difference in sound levels until boost was pulled on this setup.

    I will try to get a heat-soaked open cone closed hood reading the next chance I get. We'll just... run a few laps around the fairgrounds first or something. I'll figure it out.

    once you get moving the open cone cools down, its only when your stopped it gets pretty hot.

    Maybe I should figure out how to set up a thermometer in the MAF or something to do something like this:

    Check temp at:
    1. Idle, before run
    2. Top during run
    3. Idle, right after run
    4. While moving x,y,z speeds... 25,50,75?

    Actually, now that I think of it, I've got a battery-powered thermometer with two sensor wires. What locations would you guys like me to set them up in?

    or you could just read the intake air temps (IAT's) in the maf if you have a tuner. most scan gauges should read this setting also.

    also, for scientific purposes, i think time, how long it takes for the IAT's to come down after idleing would be helpful also.

    It should have a scan gauge, but doesn't. I don't happen to have a tuner. The thermometer was $5... though I admit to not having seen it in like 2 years. On the DIC, is that temp reading (the one listed with tranny fluid temp) ambient air temp, or MAF temp?

    Pretty sure the only temp the DIC ever reads is the outside air temp

    that is the oil temp under oil temp in the dic, and it also reads the outside air temp.


    i was pointing out the IAT's because well it already has something that your trying to do, and would probably be a little more on point. but also different maf's will read IAT's faster, so the results could be different based on different maf's.

    you would need to get the temp sensor inside the air intake to get an accurate reading of what the intake is seeing.

    I would think on the 04+ cars that the bellows would be the most restrictive point by far. It sure looks that way to me anyway.

    sounds like we need track timeswith CAI FWI and Open Cone on the same car same day same temp for air and car. And that seems to be near imposible

    Because it isnt the easiest thing to do to match 60 foot times...and get out of the hole the same as every other run.

    Well, and I just don't think you're gonna see a big whopping difference with the extra 2-5 HP anyway.

    Great post thanks for sharing, I was at the understanding 3.4 was a bit dangerous for the set up your running, I planned on running basically the same set up except I went headers for less head ache. But have you run into issues with knock what numbers are you seeing with this? I would much rather prefer dropping to a 3.4 as well but not at the risk of my motor cause if it blows Ill probably not fix it and put money down on a new car instead. Really great post though thanks for your contribution.
