Hey there all, When I go to start my car and when it starts to warm up there is smoke coming from the back of the engine. I have a water leak some where, not sure. Are there freeze plugs back there that can be letting out water hitting the exhaust causing the smoke? Or can it be the valve cover leaking oil and burning it off? I have a slight oil leak not to bad though.

Right. Because the real main seal is towards the back of the engine bay, not by the bell housing.

A nice test I like to do is clean everything really well then drive it until you can see where it starts smoking again and check where the leak is coming from. Coolant smells nasty when it burns IMO. I'd check the valve covers and the LIM gaskets...could be leaking both coolant AND oil if they have been neglected...just my 2 cents.

I say valve cover gaskets. Not much that will leak coolant on to your rear mani. You could do intake gaskets they are probably leaking also.

Yea, if it's burning i doubt it'll make it from the main seal... sounds like vc gaskets have told you they no longer enjoy sealing.

if you're doing valve cover gaskets might as well do intake gaskets while you're working on it, its not too much more work

Thanks for the advice, I have been wanting to change the VC gasket and from what I read on here the lim gasket seems to go bad to so think I might as well change them all. So are there any freeze plugs on the engine side where the spark plugs are at?

There are 2 freeze plugs on the ack of the block under the head abovethe knock sensor. The rears would be a bear to do with the engine in the car I imagine.

Those would not leak on the mani tho, unless you flipped the car, then you have more to worry about.

Right...but leaking coolant on a hot block would probably do the trick too.
