might be best to go 80's for corn. they will leave ya some head room. 42 on gas with a gen 5 and 2.8 maxed em out good. im on a 3.0 now and still hit 101 at the shifts.

corn needs a pump for sure. ic and meth and corn, is 2.50 land really maybe smaller, i know of guys with fsic and corn that ran a 2.5. meth is more octane and more cooling effects. bet you could see over 21 degrees wot.

    2 important questions

    1. If im gentle with my trans (IE rolling into throttle, no launches etc) will it survive long enough for me to build another one? A couple months most likely
    2. With Corn, Meth, IC, Rockers, ported LIM and Sc. Am i looking at 320-350 to the wheels?

I'd be surprised if you didn't make 350 at the wheels with those mods

be lucky to hit 300 if you ask me. dont beat the tar out of it, the tranny will hold up.

the way I see it is that the car makes 200 hp at the wheels. with the E85 and intercooler it should make 300 at the wheels. methanol and rockers will add another 40 hp, maybe not at the wheels though, so at least 300 at the wheels and then some. my car made 240 at the wheels on a bad tune with a 3.2 pulley and an intercooler on a dyno rated lower than an mustang dyno.

Pretty unlikely you'll make 350 on that.

Stock cam dyno record is 318whp.

Wow, thats extremely disappointing. I imagine with a Fuel pump, intercooled Turbo and e85. I would make a lot more.

With a turbo, the sky's the limit. 500whp on an otherwise stock engine would be easy, with the right turbo choice.

yea I think he meant stock cam and m90 which even then I feel some has had to pass 318whp with a full out m90 build no cam but maybe not maybe the m90 can only do so much

Yes, 318 is the current stock cam record.

I'm not sure the car still exists. It was from a long time ago.

    Basic mods were:
    IC
    Gen 5
    1.9 rockers
    Stock heads
    9.4:1 compression

Ported or aluminum heads would gain you a little. Your largest gains by far would be increasing the efficiency of the intercooling system.

Theoretically, you should be able to get 400whp on a stock cam m90. But it wont be easy.

It dosnt look like that includes Meth and e85. Shouldnt that get me past 318?

At the end of the day, im going to "try" to Turbo.

Im replacing the intercooler on my GTI this month. That means i have "an" intercooler probably not as big or effective as id like, but better than nothing. I also want to continue running corn.

My cost for a turbo assuming everything is new:

z3 turbo kit with 2.5 inch catless DP 2600
    M90 blockoff 50
    injectors 240
    Fuel pump 100
    piping for IC 100

    Total ~3100

Im told this should easily net me 400whp, and a lot more with a better intercooler (im not using the IC for power, more for safety until its upgraded)

The (theoretical max hp) m90 build:

    Ic800
    home modified fuel rail 50
    Rockers 300
    springs 100
    fuel pump 100
    injectors 100
    headers 200
    Meth 400
    Widebody o2 150
    N* tb 300
Porting LIM, Heads, and SC ~150 for a gasket set
    PCV breather 25
    pulley 60

    Cost ~2600 Power 300-320?
Assuming im at about 220 now with a DP and 3.5 inch pulley AND it makes 320, That comes out to $25 per hp
I am also on a gen 3 blower, which probably limits it. Upgrading to a Gen 5 probably takes my price much closer to the turbo.
The turbo comes out to 17.

One of the things i like about the turbo is that i can adjust boost down. If I get stuck somewhere and i cant find e85, or i know im going on a trip. I can lower boost and flash the car for gas without having to swap a pulley.
The question i have, is how much power curve, and usability change. Right now, i can modulate power pretty well to keep the tires from breaking loose everytime i drive the car a little hard. is this possible with the full m90 build, or the turbo build? My other two cars are turbo, but they are electronically controlled. I can put my foot on the throttle, and modulate how much power i have. Will this be the same way or is it kind of binary?

You can modulate your foot, you do it everyday driving the car. Even cammed etc, you have control of how much you let it hang out. The question really is...... how much will you enjoy pressing that pedal ...lol

A turbo setup IMO is easier on the trans off the line as long as you are power braking and building boost. Obviously turbo sizing etc all plays a factor.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

A z3 kit can make 400whp, but it probably won't unless you push it more.

If you don't want to take advantage of the intercooler, I'm assuming you will be running less than 10 psi. That is somewhere around 300whp.

Also a turbo car has a completely different powerband. The m90 is instant power whenever you want it. Turbo is wait, wait, wait, wait.....boom! Tire smoke.

FWIW zzp said Id be around 380 with e85 on that kit without an intercooler. I might take advantage of it. I want 400whp.

on e85, with a decent intercooler. Will i see 400whp? ZZPs claims aside. Nothing else done to the engine, just Fuel pump, injectors e85, intercooler and turbo.

The thing that concerns me is:

with the supercharger, the power i put down is heavily dependent on the throttle. My GTI has an issue where when i mat the pedal as soon as i hit boost, the tires spin even at 40, with 200 TW tires. If im at the RPM range, where i can modulate boost its ok. But since this isnt an electronically controlled turbo, it seems to me that when it makes boost it will always make whatever the boost controller is set to.

I didn't realize the z3 kit now comes with a precision 6262. Turned up, that turbo will put down about 550whp. So it depends on how brave you are.

Yup, the wastegate controls boost. It's got a lot less to do with tp%.

if youre looking to do the entire build now just do turbo only reason I didn't do turbo is because ive been gradually building this car over the past few years and still am but if I were to pay it all up front and had the time to have the car down all at once for a turbo id do it all the way. with my intercooler I will have probably put in the money for a turbo install but have much less power and to me that turbo lag is like nothing else lol if I had more money when I bought this car I probably would've just went turbo lol also didn't have a lot of faith in the previous owner and didn't think the car would last this long so if you don't have those 2 things holding you back then kawabunga it is haha
