I recently rebuild my tranny and everything seemed to be 110% solid for 2 weeks. Recently drove it on the highway for a total of 6hrs. Started to notice hard 1-2 shifts. Engine light on. Scanner reads P0716

Wanted to see if anyone out there had any trouble shoot tips or tricks for this code. Been doing some research but need a clearer picture. Anything will help, thanks.

Found this info from Dave at triple edge in an older post:

Typically this code will set if the input speed sensor reluctor wheel is damaged and no longer spinning as it should. Since you mention the car is driving ok again this is likely not the problem. I would have the code cleared out of the pcm memory and see if it comes back. This code will turn the check engine light on after two consecutive test cycles while driving have failed. There is another code for electrical problems with this sensor but if the signal dropped out and came back a few times from a poor connection that could also have caused what you have. I rarely see the sensors go bad but have seen plenty of wiring problems cause interemittant connections. There is a larger electrical connector on top of the transmission case you could check and make sure nothing is wrong there and you could also clean it with contact cleaner and blow off the connector ends and see if that helps. I havent seen wire harness problems on the 04+ cars but on the 03 and earlier cars I have seen the wire harness rubbed through under the air box area and cause wires to have breaks or short to something and cause plenty of headaches so you may want to look over this area good also just to make sure it is ok.

This is some good info. Thanks! Dont know how I missed that. Might've been scrolling to fast.. I have a 04 GTP. So what it seem's like is I'll be looking for electrical problems somewhere. I'm hoping outside of the tranny if not, I'll have to drain fluid carefully, take side cover off and replace the wiring harness inside the trans and while I'm at it, might as well change the Turbine Speed Sensor. That's the only sensor that isn't new. Sheesh!.. I'll keep searching to see if I can find a (How To) check if internal sensors are working without me tampering with the tranny, unless there's in fact a problem. If anyone out there has diagrams, etc. please share

I wonder if it has something to do with my ZZP 4340 Input Shaft I installed?[emoji2377] Feel free to chime in.

    Nope..

None of us are that lucky. There's a possibility you clipped the edge of the wire when you pulled the side cover and redid that seal. The other thing I see happening here is something went wrong in the rebuild and theres a little metal on the sensor (you did pull it and wipe any metal dust off it, right?).

My suggestion would be to test the sensor based on the ohm reading in the ATSG manual (ask Scotty if you don't have it). Then pull the side cover, inspect the internal wiring harness and pull the sensor. Maybe replace it just in case.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I've seen one of these reluctor wheels come off if the re-builder forgot one of the two washers on either side of the input gear and reluctor wheel. Also seen it be metal contamination.

Yea, I'm glad I could check that off my list of things that I didnt do haha. Screenshot a vid I made and I think I see both washers placed if I'm not wrong?

Love it when I hear back from you! Clipping the edge might be a possibility. I cleaned every part and even disassembled the pump vanes. All with brake clean and until the case was bare naked. Replaced all sensors with new ones but except the turbine speed sensor. I too that out and only cleaned that thoroughly, that's it.

As for OHM test, I seen a diagram but it didn't look the same. So what I did was I went to my old original burnt tranny I took out and probed around to test just the Input Speed Sensor. And these 2 is what I came up with........ Dont know if my reader is bad or not but what I seen was at first a flash of 677 than it started to decrease slowly (set at 20Kohm's)..

FYI, I'm new at this OHM reading stuff.

Is it best to disconnect battery or there's no need to?
