    First post, I hope this forum is as good as the Powerstroke forums I frequent! I am sure it will be,

    Ok, I have a 2000 GP GT with an issue. Every so often the tach will quit, and the Trac off light is on. This has happened previously several times without a CEL. It happens while driving, the car will jerk, (misfire) and then continues on like nothings wrong, (Aside from the tach laying dead, and the Trac light) Today those two things happened, and it got a code, P0336. Crank sensor. Turn the key off, and re start the car, it's gone?
    Can the CS cause this issue? (The Trac light is the most confusing thing for me,,,)
    Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    I would replace the CPS since it sounds like you need a new one anyway and see if the issue goes away completely. Sometimes electronics are tied together in weird ways.

    From the Serivice Manual:

    Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement
    Removal Procedure

    Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
    Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
    Remove the crankshaft harmonic balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
    Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
    Remove the CKP sensor shield (1). DO NOT use a pry bar.

    Remove the CKP sensor studs.
    Remove the CKP sensor.
    Installation Procedure

    Install the CKP sensor.
    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Install the CKP sensor studs.
    Tighten
    Tighten the studs to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

    Install the CKP sensor shield (1).
    Connect the CKP sensor electrical connector.
    Install the crankshaft harmonic balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
    Lower the vehicle.
    Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
    Perform the crankshaft position system variation learn procedure. Refer to Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn .




    Hardest part is going to be breaking the harmonic balancer bolt loose. You have to hold the flywheel to do so, then use a pulley remover to get it out.

    Yeah that harmonic balancer is a pita to remove, If I remember correctly Autozone and O'reilly's rent the pullers. There is a video on you tube that shows an easy way to remove the bolt.

    Takes 15 minutes and you won't break a sweat unless it's over 90F outside.

    Easy as pie if you have air tools. without it might be 30 minutes.
    I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

    Jimtjr did you replace your sensor and did that fix your problems? My car is doing EXACALY the same thing, trac light and all!

    Sorry for bringing up an old thread, but I've got this problem and code on my car.

    Has anyone got a current how-to-fix link for this, and the part number I might need please, as there are several part numbers for this on Rockauto. My car is a 4-door 1998 GT. Is it best to stick with AC Delco parts?

    There's a write up in this thread but I believe there is another under the "how to" section. As for AC Delco....I don't really think its going to matter if you put a cheap one on or an expensive one because your cars already 14 years old and chances are you wont have to replace this ever again.

    Cheers! Did a search for the crank sensor and found it. Will have to import one from Rockauto, as I can't get one over here!

    dont buy cheap sensors, they dont last, being your across the pond, buy a good brand, as ac delco's would be the best bet. a good one is only $30 ish in US dollars.

    Ordered a new sensor from Rockauto, and the total cost including tax and shipping was $75!!!! Yet another reason why I wished I lived in the US.

    Hey guys it's been a while since i been on. I have had this issue for about 3months now... Except my tcs light dose not come on. Infact im guessing if Dosnt work cause i cant get it ti light up anyway... But anyway, its been about 1 month now since its died on me. But just today i went to start it and i had to hold the rpm at 1000 to keep in running... Then if i let go it would just die.. So i go in the store and when i come back. Its completely fine.... Any thoughts? Cant afford much and have to do everything myself.. Anyhelp would be great thank you!!!!!

    Got one for cam shaft sensor.. Replaced that, it was good for like 3 days..and another for misfire cylinder one...
