Hey guys, I just added a cold air intake and I'm wondering what the safest way to remove the front half of my air box is, at it seems to also house what looks like my ECM. One person told me to make sure it doesn't touch anything metal, another told me it's likely there for cooling. I have no issues trimming the bottom piece off the box to retain the factory mount, but I want the upper front part of it off so I can extend the cone further towards the bumper. Pic included.

I was also wondering if there's a way to fix the P0411 code that's popping up as secondary air injection incorrect upstream flow.

The computer is water proof and fr the most part shock proof. I removed my air box completely and just set the computer on the frame for like 4 years without a hiccup. Many others do the same. It can touch metal or water and not have any problems.

They do leave in the air box for packaging and because the airflow does keep the temps in check. Even leaving it lay on the frame where the box was still gets airflow there and it's just fine. Go ahead and chop the box up if you want it to lay in the bottom of it still.

Did you block the flow of the air injection system? That hose is connected to the airbox after the filter is should be free flowing.

I cut the bottom of the box off to retain the mounts because I didn't feel like making one to hold it in place. The house that goes into the factory rubber connector up by the throttle body is still there. I bought a 45 degree elbow and a rubber connector to try to remove the factory piece, but now I'm having trouble connecting everything to the MAF sensor and that little pcv hose up top.

Update: the exact code I'm running into with the new cold air intake is a P0411: secondary air injection incorrect upstream

If is the plug in the air pump a control, or just a sensor wire? I'm wondering if unplugging it will remove the code, or just throw a new one. Car runs great as it is, the CEL just gets on my nerves because I have factory remote start, otherwise I wouldn't worry about the light.

I had to unplug the wire to my brake fluid level sensor due to a similar issue that replacing the sensor didn't help with, so I'm wondering what other components I can safely pull this trick with.

I had a P0411 on my 08 a while back and it was a bad valve on the back of the engine not letting the air pump blow through the exhaust. At start up.

Something to consider, but what are the chances it would quit the same day I install a cold air set up?

There was a test to check with a tech 2. It commandeered the air pump on and you checked the tail pipe to feel air flow. No flow solenoid was bad.

Well, I unplugged the air pump and so far everything is working fine, no CEL, and I picked up a plumbing coupler from Home Depot that's doing the job of keeping the MAF sensor in place.

Nice. That oil cap neck makes me uncomfortable. Feel like it's challenging my heterosexuality. Ya can put the cap right into the valve cover, no?

If you can I was unaware of it. I've had the car less than a year and only removed the cover because the rattling from loose connectors was testing my sanity and patience. Never even thought to check if it fit the valve cover.

Yup, neck twists off, and cap fits cover. I was just being silly though. You doing any more mods?

I have a lot planned that I don't currently have funding for, but my next is probably just going to be taking the sub out of my Blazer to compliment my Monsoon system, and tinting my windows. I also need to rejigger my underglow due to an unfortunate incident with a piece of (literal) trash.

Actually, after looking at the picture I uploaded and thinking about it, when it comes time to do valve cover gaskets I might paint those red, too.
