    Hey guys, I tried reading other posts but cant really find one that fits my case.
    I bought an 07 Buick allure 3.8 190 000 kms. Runs good shifts good..... I wiped the dipstick and decided to do a pan drop cause of the color of oil. I noticed when I was pouring the oil into bottles that there were flakes in the oil. F&$#@ sakes. So I put in dex 6 full synthetic and changed the filter. Since the pan drop it does shift a lil funny a few times but for the most part u don't even feel it shift. So I need to know what are my options as of now. Scared it gets worse cuz it can't get better lol. I thought about another pan drop using ac Delco oil or transgo or one of those tranny fix it in a bottle anything besides nothing... won't do a flush. Thanks guys for your input

    Thought I would add that there was no metal shavings on the magnet just a couple inches of white sludge that you would normally get. I'm guessing the inevitable is coming were any day il start hearing a shudder. I'd like to try and be on top of it before anything.

    At this point it's either drop the pan, save the fluid, install a trans-go kit or just suck out a quart of fluid and replace it with a full bottle of lucas.

    Do you think full synthetic was the best way to go? When i put in a shift kit, would it hurt using new oil? Was always told that using too much new oil in an older trans that hasn't been done in awhile wasn't good. Not sure if that's a myth.

    I was actually in the same scenario as you except my magnet was caked with sludge and shavings was even having the same symptoms after and realized my trans was running pretty hot so I installed a huge trans cooler and a year after that I did a shift kit and the symptom has gotten better with both installs. still does a hard shift that makes my girlfriend jump if you stuck in traffic every now and then but im pushing about 270 to the wheels and its holding up also had to replace some leaking lines before the trans cooler that may be your problem as well those lines are sneaky when they leak haha then next thing you know you cant accelerate when turning left. every time I put in the acdelco dex 6 full synthetic as well ive been told this was the best so I went with it
    2004 gtp SD headers, e85, #60 injectors, Walbroh 255lph, junkyard custom fender well intake, lq4 MAF, 2.8 Pulley, 1.95 rockers, l76 springs, ssic w/ vw rad shift kit and tranny cooler 275/45r17. BMR trailing and rear control arms, zzp STB's, tubular control arms, Dorman and Addoco sway bars, intense coilovers, all poly. avid av-20s

    Reading what you said.. I am thinking..

    Flakes in the oil, not on the magnet. To me this says.. not iron. Means they are aluminum. And if they are aluminum then they are most likely from the diff pin moving around a little which is semi common on these transmissions. If it's the diff pin, well your trans isn't on it's way out, but it should get a diff or roll pin to hold the main diff pin in place. Easy enough to check if you pull the passenger axle then the diff cover. Look at the inside of the diff cover.. if you see a 1" wide score mark going around inside of it.. you got your issue.

    Thanks guys this info is golden. Not playing stupid but doesn't my tranny hv a cooler in the rad?? Yes billboost there was no shavings on the magnet, not one but the flakes that were In there were pretty lightweight as they didn't settle to the bottom. There wasn't alot but that makes me happy to hear.
    One more thing billboost can you elaborate on what you said about holding in the pin, never heard of that but I do want to do what I can. I went synthetic cuz it works much better in high heat.

    And the pin/diff - this one fell out of the diff when I took the cover off.


    Aluminum would be light enough to suspend like you are saying. and wouldn't get caught by the magnet.

    Thanks man. I see the scoremark your talking about. As soon as this b's cold temp warms up il hv a look. In the meantime I'm making plans to install a cooler and shift kit. M7b cooler is my choice by try cool. Hopefully that's a good choice

    That's a fantastic cooler. So good in fact that you might need to block some or all of it off in the winter depending on how cold it gets where you are.

    Never thought of That, I guess I can overcool it in really cold days. When warm theres a slight buck from takeoff, all the other gears are fine. I'm glad it's not worse. But my lines are leaking. I cant see any visible signs of fluid nor do i see any fluid in my driveway, but I sure smell the oil when the engine is hot. That don't make sense to me cause I did look thoroughly.
