2005 3.8L, non S/C. Temp in the morning is 12F/-11*C. This thing could idle for 10 min and the gauge will not lift off the cold mark, and once you drive it for about 15 min it will barely make it to the 1/4 mark. Are these things impossible to warm up in the cold climate? I even have half of the rad covered with cardboard to help it out. I did the thermostat last winter with a Delco.

Almost ready for the can of gas and a match trick for it. Any suggestions?

Do you have heat & defrost ? If so, who cares what the gauge says.... If not, flush your heater core, 2 hoses behind alt.
For the record : I am NOT a naked meth-head who shoves rocks up my butt.

Sounds like the thermostat is stuck open. New parts can fail too.

I'd only install a 195º thermostat back in there, no 180º in that cold climate.
