Has anyone had to replace a broke cam sprocket? I have a 92 engine that someone must have used a pry bar on and broke a chunk off the back side of the sprocket. Can't seem to find a place that has them, any idea's?

A 92' engine what? Lots of engines built in 1992. Assuming your working on a 3.8 , just get a new timing chain set, should come with new crank and cam sprockets along with chain.

It's in the 3.4 DOHC section; so I'm assuming that engine.

Are you talking about the cam gear itself? (Apparently GM calls it s sprocket so, yeah)

I'd try getting the tool and heading back to the junkyard. You should be able to get to it in the car.

    Here's the tool:

Yes that is the sprockets(gears) I was talking about. I have a tool already, I used it to remove the intermediate shaft sprocket. The engine is down to the block and going to have it cleaned and see if it needs to be bored out. I'll check around the yards we have around here but it will be a slim chance. I'm thinking any car with the 3.4 DOHC would work to perhaps? Monte Carlo in 95 I think had them.

Yup; a few cars had the 3.4 in it. All of the gears should be the same since the motor wasn't used that long. Here's the list...

1991–1994 Chevrolet Lumina Z34 and the Euro 3.4 sedan
    1991–1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme
    1991–1996 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP
    1995–1997 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Z34
    1995–1996 Chevrolet Lumina LS
    1999 Chevrolet Silverado K1500 Classic Z71 - Intake/Gibson Exhaust/20% Tint
    2004 Chevrolet Corvette MRM A4 - C5Z Suspension/AFE S2 Intake/TSP Catless LT's/3" ORX/C6 ZR1 Wheels

So i found a used sprocket and i'm starting to put the lower end together and had a question about the rod and pistons. I have new pistons installed on the rods and the pistons have a notch. The manual states they should face the front, with them facing the front 3 out of 6 rods are backwards with the bearing notches. Does this matter?
