Hey all. Been a while since I have posted, but have recently felt the GP doesn’t have the “go” that it used to. It has 96k miles on the clock. The knocking noise or clicking noise isn’t the lifters I don’t think. It more or less sounds like clicking from a stretched timing chain. Is that possible at this mileage? What is the typical service interval for the timing chain?

I doubt it's timing chain related.

The clicking/knocking is probably engine ping you are hearing. If the get up and go is no longer there, it could be struggling to get exhaust gases out of the engine.

Or it could be a fuel related problem where it's pinging because it's lean.

For test I'd grab a temp gun and see just how hot the cat converter is getting. If it's plugged up bad, it would start glowing when it's really dark outside.

I mean there never really was a whole lot of power to begin with, but it just feels less now than when I got it at 56k miles. I’ll check the cat, maybe move up a fuel grade to see if that solves the pinging. I’m sure it could use a fuel filter. I doubt it’s had it changed in its life.

not sure about the 03 but my 08 has quite a bit of pep at 121000. enough pep to break the tires loose at a standing start if i want to. not roast the tires, but theyll squak.
might want to pull some codes and see if ya have a misfire/non fire cylinder happening. how old are plugs, wires, and air filter? might need a throttle body cleaning, too.

I don’t have any check engine lights or any that have come up since I’ve owned it. I did a pretty thorough throttle body cleaning probably 6-8 months ago. Plug wires are OEM as are plugs. Filter (AEM brand) was just cleaned a month ago at oil change.
