So I change the oil and finally figure out the vacuum leak issue when I took it for a test drive the car will literally just stay in nutral I put it in first gear and I hear a nasty grinding noise. Im thinking tranny pump not sure yet. SO heres my next question would it even be worth it to put another tranny in my GP the chassis has 298,000 miles and im debating on wether I should buy another Grand Prix preferably a GTP or just put a better transmission in mine. Oh and I know the GTP trans is more stronger than the typical GT would it be possible to swap a GTP transmission on my L36 or would it not bolt up? and final question how much do you guys think I could get a used transmission for?

You can swap to the HD trans the GTP has, but you will have to tune for the different gear ratio (2.93's in the HD vs. 3.29's in the GT). You can score a used trans for about $300-500 depending on mileage and seller. They really aren't much better than the GT trans. Have the same issues w/ the 4th clutch hub, etc..

As far as selling the car vs/ replacing the trans, how good of shape is your in? Any other outstanding issues? Are you willing to buy a GTP and fix all of it's issues (cause you know it will have some)?

Okay I appreciate the reply. I was just curious on if the tranny was any stronger. From what I have researched the GTP trans just has a different gear ratio and is a little stronger but not much more to be worth my time. Okay thats good estimate range. The only issue I see is putting a used transmission in and having to put another used one in at another point. My GP is a 1998 GT the new engine has 70k but my chassis is sitting at 298,000 So im kinda thinking its not even going to be worth it. My Grand Prix is very clean except for the clear coat peeling on the hood also when I bought it I witnessed the guy put a used transmission in it and I literally bought the car yesterday of 2012. I feel that my GP is becoming a bit of a money pit considering Ive had to replace 2 tie rods a power steering rack and a strut mount and chase a vaccuum leak 2 coolant elbos and a radiator. The other day I happened to notice the power steeing rack is leaking again so it makes me wonder if the frame could possibly be bent. I understand a few of those repairs are common but me being 17 and still trying to find a job makes things a little bit difficult. Hopefully I can find a cheap GTP with a few flaws in exterior parts and change most of the stuff from my GT. Im just tired of beating a dead horse in my opinion :/
