Thread: GXP Chain

Interesting find! I have built a few 05 and 06 V8 4T65Es and the chains looked the exact same as anything else, maybe it was in later years. I have seen a different input sun gear, appears to just been shot peened. The rear planet and the differential gears were black in color, though I never see those to be a problem unless metal contamination caused damage so who knows why the change was made there. I will look into those V8 chains when I get a chance, I know in the aftermarket world there is only one chain option and you just get the latest revision for a replacement.

Side note: I'm an engineering intern for a company that makes the frame rails for heavy duty trucks/vehicles. We heat treat the rails (red hot) and then send them through media blasting. They look the same before and after heat treatment, so visually the two chains may not look any different, but on the molecular level they are quite different.

I guess I know why I dont have options ordering a chain, I already get the HV093 chain which says it is the 05 V8 style chain. I have been using that same number for a long time. The HV058 is the chain I use in my single chain sets.

We've used the GXP chains in a few builds around 300-350whp and so far so good, that's kinda the borderline area for upgrading to a 7/8 single.

GM superseided the V8/65E chain part number for all the chains for previous vehicles, so it's the only chain that GM now sells, even if you specify a 98 GTP. From what I was told, the aftermarket companies did the same, as Dave confirmed.

Best part is they're inexpensive! Grab some 35/35 gears from a GT, these V8/65E chains and you should have something to hold a cammed GTP or mild turbo build.
