Thread: quick steps to check how bad the chain snapped?

from the tranny smarts out there(trannyman as well as 3800se and any others), i JUST want to check how bad the chain was broken in my old tranny, but is it something i should be able to do or should i just wait for a few months til i just ship it out to trannyman to get it repaired/rebuilt(opened a savings account just for this). if its doable, please give me tips and instructions to get to the chain, otherwise just let me know its not worth the time and prolly the 'safety' of the trans the way it is now. thanks in advance!!

It is a bit of work to get to the chain. You have to remove the side cover, wiring harness, pump, valve body, then the channel plate/large casting under the valve body, and then you are at the chain and gears. There are quite a few bolts and 10 checkballs that will come rolling out when you take it apart. Make sure the trans is drained before you do this or it is going to make a big mess!

thanks dave, if/when i do get to the chain, are there any torque specs i should know of when i put everything back to together?

Not sure if I put specs on the chain install writeup on here or not, but all the torque specs are on my info page of my website.
