This may be posted a little prematurely as I haven’t driven my car much but enough to be worried about the trans. I bought the car a couple weeks ago and haven’t driven much as I have to fix a couple things before I register it. But I’m seeing some trans issues which I know these cars are notorious for but was hoping to avoid for a year or 2. I will drive the car more this weekend, as I need to complete a drive cycle so I can get it smogged.
But what I’ve seen so far is some slipping in the trans. I’ve been babying the sh** out of it with what little I have driven partly for the trans and also I didn’t trust the previous owner put premium in it lol. What I’ve noticed is feels a slight slip going into 2nd, and once so far at a light when I started to go it felt like one long slip the entire way till I pulled over which was just across the intersection. I felt like I had no power and was accelerating really slow, not how it normally has felt. But I went into the store and came back out and didn’t do it again on drive home. I checked the fluid cold but not while ideling yet. And cold it looked okay, not burnt or smelly and had a slight red tinge to it. I’ll check it ideling soon. I put like 6.5 gallons of 91 (only thing available here) when it was pretty low, so even if it did have regular I should be okay now. Any opinions? I planned on doing a fluid change and filter change pretty soon here. Should I drive more normal or spirited and see wht happens or that a bad idea? Lol

suck out a qt from the dip stick tube with clear tubing and then dump a qt of some kind of trans medx and pray it holds up. sounds like it on its way out.

Should I do the drain and fill and add that medx with that? Or don’t do drain and fill only medx ?

no, dont drain a thing. remove one qt only, or fuk it, over fill it by a qt.....add just one qt of the trans medix.

I’ll pump some fluid out and give it a shot. Like I said I already planned on a trans rebuild but was hoping for not right away, better start saving for it. I got my eyes a TEP one. Might as well do it once and be done. I’ll put some Lucas in and see how it goes. Hopefully I can buy my self a little time. I don’t plan on driving hard on it till it’s replaced. It’s just a project car not dd. Thanks for the advice. I’ll let ya know how it goes

best get your order in at tep asap then, cause you can wait 6 months or longer im seeing on fb and then they send you a tranny with gears you didnt request due to lack of parts out there it seems. this is regurgitated off fb complaint posts lol

So I let the car warm up completely, took it for a little drive around the block. Driving cautiously it seemed to shift okay, got it back and checked the fluid while ideling and it was pretty much right in the middle between low and max. Should I just add the quart of Lucas instead of pumping some out then?

Well I finally got some time and added most of a bottle of the Lucas stop slip. Now on initial driving it does shift little better. Took it out for a bit seemed good. Decided to give it a little boost while driving in first and it just slips and revs up to 4K so I let off. Then drives normal and shifts fine. I took it out again just now and did the same thing and it slipped and revved up so I let off then it drives fine. So driving slow around town it drives fine but soon as there’s boost involved it’s all over lol. That make sense? Pretty sure trans is on its last leg

last leg sounds like the right terminology. when its slipping so easy its on borrowed time for sure.
