    hey everyone

    planned on getting a intercooler the other day and had a duh moment and realized I will probably blow my trans clean out of the engine bay by doing so with my current mods on top of it. so I had to cancel the order still feel bad for the seller but now im wondering if my current mods will blow my trans? I haven't actually installed the 3.1 pulley yet since the belt for it just came and its been in the negative degrees where I live I also got a 3.0 pulley for basically free and will test these to see if I stay knock free but if I do will I be putting my trans in serious danger? did 255whp with a 3.5 pulley (what im currently on) and stock rockers. let me know I've heard 300whp is the limit will I be dangerously close to this btw trans has always shifted harder than the average car since I got it 60k miles ago but I feel has gotten better overtime through good maintenance if that's possible lol I don't want to do anymore trans work than what I already have as well.
    2004 gtp SD headers, e85, #60 injectors, Walbroh 255lph, junkyard custom fender well intake, lq4 MAF, 2.8 Pulley, 1.95 rockers, l76 springs, ssic w/ vw rad shift kit and tranny cooler 275/45r17. BMR trailing and rear control arms, zzp STB's, tubular control arms, Dorman and Addoco sway bars, intense coilovers, all poly. avid av-20s

    go buy the ic. stock engines blow up trannys.

    stock junk is good for 300 hp if treated right. with out a cam your not near 300 hp. even with the ic and a 3.0 and corn fed.

    Well I assume the intercooler I would be using a 2.8 or 2.7 with the intercooler installed probably even a 2.6 in this weather haha and I can probably use the 3.0 pulley now in the winter and the 3.1 in the summer guy I bought the rockers off of had a similar build except he was a series 2 engine with a gev 5 supercharger and said he used the 3.1 no knock plus I got some cheap 17inch heavy discount tire wheels. If I had some light ones I probably wouldnt of even made the thread you still think id be good to go for the intercooler? Just being precautious sorry if I sound stupid about it

    Id assume id be putting down about the same about of power as you so do you think a stock trans with a shift kit and cooler would handle your setup? Brandonhall trans sounds built or is it just a stock setup?😂

    my tranny is semi built, no hard parts were installed. its got a bit more then a stock rebuild.

    lets just say someday it will take a crap on ya some day. ive lost two trannys already. one it came with lost 3 rd gear, @216,000. the used one i replaced it with locked up solid, ( didn't even get 20,000 out of that one) now i got a this fully rebuilt one.

    i also do go to the track and romp the piss out if my car, funny but the last one that blew up happened soon after going to the track. but my local daily driving is some what tame, im hardly ever wot for more then a few seconds and i need to take off in a normal fashion or the wheels just spin from a dead stop.

    so yes fuk it the gains wont be that huge over where you are now. if you beat it like a red headed step child full time, it wont last long at all.

    Haha good analogy but yea I'm the same type of driver but every now and then if its late and someone pulls up to the light hinting a race its on haha never been to a track though

    Eh id probably just do a 2.8 so I dont have to machine the snout id probably drill thru to the rotating mechanism haha

    fwiw, when I had my 98 gtp I bought it when it had about 80k miles. basic bolt-ons with 3.3-3.4" pulley on summer/all-season tires and close to what the DHP 1.5 pcm tune was setup for the trans. the car was tracked a lot, like 100-150 track passes. didn't do any long burnouts but just enough to spin any dirt and debris off the tires.

    at around 115k miles just cruising one day on the freeway at like 70mph something went boom and I lost all forward and reverse gears coming to a halt on the side of the road. ended up snapping the oem chain.

    like mentioned above, the oem trans can take some abuse but the trans is already maxed out from the factory and as you increase more torque, the reliability and life of the trans greatly lowers and something will give and wear out.

    so to sum everything up im basically living on borrowed time like CT fletcher lol and just like he lifts weights even though it could kill him I should mod my car even though it could blow my trans haha because either way those things will eventually happen and at least it'll blow up doing something I like doing instead of being scared lol
