I was finally able to log in

The other day I performed a pan drop and shift kit install on my 40th anniversary GTP that has only 56k on it.

I found this little guy on my magnet:

Its a spring pin. And only half of it was there. I cracked open the filter and there wasnt really anything at all in there.

The only thing I found was that it possibly could be the spring pin that holds in the roll pin inside the differential.. I personally have not done any burn outs or anything with it. The owner before me was a middle aged woman and I got the sense that her 'boy thang' mightve been a little aggressive with it from time to time.

    Thoughts?

That defiantly looks like the differential roll pin.

Is this something that needs fixed? Will the roll pin stay in its spot? Its just a summer car so maybe over winter I will pull it apart.

yes.. go to a junkyard and get a diff from another GTP and then put it into yours. Because after that pin breaks the main diff pin starts walking and chews up the diff cover. When it gets bad enough it either wears through, self destructs or breaks the diff cover. By replacing it, You'll avoid all that.

ps. wipe the metal dust off the vss while you have the cover in your hand.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

the saga continues for you. Want to buy an HD diff and cover for dirty cheap? I am doing a swap on an 06 HD and won't need the old diff. It has 93K on it and the trans failed from being totally full of clutch material, no chunks.

I pulled it.. looks nice. LMK if you want it.
