what year depends heavily upon what year PCM you're using and whether you want to make a hybrid with the internal mode switch to solve the external range switch clearance issues
Assuming I'm working with a PCM from my 2000 Regal?

I have access to two already pulled out good 4t80e trans but they are 1994.
    Is that a good year.

Like Snowflake said what's the best year, anyone know ?

Thought itd be worth mentioning with T42 trans controller that later LS4's and other various gms have have the option to change shift solenoid patterns in the software via HP tuners which should allow you to just use the caddy parameters and just drive.

youll want a 97-99 80e though you can use later years with some trial and error, later 80e's have the IMS to elim that issue, its easy as hell to swap the harness and IMS in (ive got one ive removed already, boxed up and ready for the 442) i never got too far into the lack of a tcc pressure switch, presumably you can delete the code diagnostic and the tcc will function just without triggering the code and the hot/failsafe stuff.

the early had issues with the castings warping so many of those are GM reman. you do not have the pressure switch manifold so your gonna have some work to do with the obd2 pcm but your trans controller likely doesnt have any diagnostic capability so it wont use em. we have a nearly new GM reman from a 94 deville with 165 on the clock, trans probably has maybe 20k barely any oil staining on the GM grey paint and even the alum reman tab wasnt corroded. i will swap out the vb and harness if i have to, regardless its a goldmine of new parts.

ive wanted to play more with the trans type in tiny but ive got two 80e pcm's here that id love to see if i can pull any data from. i kinda wonder if changes in the bin file might be affecting overall trans strategy...its possible he just has a weak trans so im interested in what dave finds out. the inverter never had any issues aside from ****head not sealing it up against saltwater.

i never got dave to tell me exactly what he did with the bin file lol maybe he can take care of the pesky tcc switch issue (though manual operation works fine)

ultimatly you suckers are helping jeff, me, dave, and the canuckian's, blaze the trail.....hahahah

    thanks! lol

I'm more and more intrigued by the 80e swap every day.
I just shattered the 3rd gear sprag in my ultimo65e build... kinda blows since there's no upgrade for the sprag.

Hmm thought it popped before anyways yeah looking at the chain and diff setup on the 4t80 makes me want to choke all the gm engineers for not putting this behind a sc 3800 from the get go.

No I had a problem with 3rd gear holding on big boost but turned out I just needed to add a qt of fluid.

I'll put the 4t80e to the test. So far it's much stronger than a stock 4t65-hd for sure. I have enough test runs + a solid 60 foot on it to prove that.
But is it stronger than full built 4t65-hd ? Too early to tell.

So far my impressions are much better power output at the wheels. It just seems to make power effortlessly to the wheels while the 4t65-hd was always on the converter and or always felt like it slipped at full power too.

But that tight converter is a ***** too, can't make decent boost until at least 3 seconds. Best boost at 4 seconds WOT. That makes it difficult to stage in my opinion.
Modifying the timing curve and fuel curve at spool up results is lower boost output. The current timing curve produces the best RPM and boost.

The stock Deville converter engages at 1600rpm and with 3 full seconds on the throttle 2700RPM

    lol no worries bud.

its been 14 years for us at this point. the aurora converter i have i pulled from a wrecked car with a minty drivers seat/pedals...took 2-3 hours in the junkyard....been doing crap like that to collect our parts for just hte last 3-4 years lol

around here half the time they yank the N* and toss the 80e inthe trunk....makes it easy...sometimes

    The 442

The TR will hopefully get to the high 10's as a "street car"
it will probably be a dyno queen just like all those slow ass high horsepower supras
