well scotty the weirdest thing happened. i figured id reset the pcm by disconnecting the battery for an hour and all the symptoms literally went away and everything has been fine since. i dont understand why but it worked. and i have the gt not the gtp.

Check your fluid level for starters.

You know, on a warmed up transmission, level ground, left running...etc.

Could be a fluke thing though resetting the PCM helped. Odd. Do you have an "altered" PCM or a custom self tune on it?

Might review the settings if so.

Well I am very glad that worked out for you. Keep an eye on it as the PCM will have to relearn the Shifts and such again. If nothing comes back after a couple of days you may be okay.

well if its something to do with my transmission itself wouldnt i have the symptoms no matter what i did? makes no sense that the transmission itself is working perfectly now if there is something wrong with it. its not just going to go away unless it was the pcm. (i did do the big three not even two days ago and had to reset it. which im willing to bet since ive gone wot so many times it didnt give the pcm time to relearn the correct shift points....) please correct me if im wrong.

The PCM adapts to things going on in the tranny. If it detects its slipping it will eventually command higher line pressure to combat the problem, which results in harder shifts.

Resetting the PCM cleared this so the tranny is learning everything again. If the slippage is still there then the tranny will take time to realize it and eventually command higher pressure again. All you did was clear the learned parameters, nothing more. It's relearning.

It may it may not. That's why everyone was saying we'll have to wait and see.

I agree. It will take time to see if it comes back. You may be fine but there's just no way to tell for sure until the PCM relearns everything.

well i just got done driving over 70 miles of stop and go traffic and so far nothing has changed. its starting to firm up the second and third gear shifts which im assuming is normal but so far no whine and no hard shifts. id think the pcm would have learned it by now....
also does it help to go slow while its learning or go through all the gears and wot? i went slow and got through all the gears the first 20 miles and the next 20 i went about half throttle when accelerating and the last 20 i mixed it up a bit. last 10 miles i logged were on the highway with no problems whatsoever.

Drive normal. Slow will make it adapt to the shifts too softly (wearing out clutches faster when you get on it) and hard will make it think it's going to be driven hard most of the time so it will go to hard shifts to protect itself.

It takes several driving cycles and all the various speed ranges and shifts for it to finish the adaptive pressure.

This is the first chance I have had to see this but what year is your car??? If you have a 98 or newer GT then you have a 4T65E. The 440T4 wasnt used after the 91-93 era depending on model so at best it would be a 4T60E and only if a 97 GT. Either way neither of those earlier transmissions had pcm controlled line pressure and that was only on the 4T65E between all the above three transmissions. Glad it worked out of its bug, like everyone else mentioned it probably just needed reset and had learned to a worn trans in its previous car. Sometimes the pressure control solenoid will be stuck or the pcm sees an issue and commands max line pressure until reset. The more you drive the car in all conditions the faster it learns, often the shifts start soft and firm up the more you drive the car just as you have noticed so far.

Then this was in the wrong section, as you have a 4T65E.
